These are the Top 5 Mistakes To Avoid When Growing Marijuana

April 11, 2023 by Sabine Downer

Growing cannabis can be rewarding and enjoyable. Growing cannabis can be challenging, especially for beginners. The growth process can be complicated and can lead to lower yields or even failure. This article will address the top five mistakes that cannabis growers should avoid.

Overwatering and Underwatering
Growers often make the common mistake of overwatering and submerging their cannabis plants. Cannabis plants need to have a certain amount water in order to grow well. Overwatering can result in root rot and other problems. While underwatering can cause plants to wilt, eventually they will die. It is important that you water your plants only when it is dry to the touch.

The Wrong Soil
A common mistake is to use the wrong type of soil. Cannabis plants need well-drained soil that is nutrient-rich and pH-balanced. Poor root growth and nutrient deficiency can be caused by soil that is too dense or compact. It is important to do your research before you buy a soil suitable for cannabis growth.

Too little light
Cannabis plants need lots of light in order to thrive. Without sufficient light, cannabis plants will become spindly and tall with tiny buds. Your plants will thrive if they are provided with enough light. You can either invest in high-quality lights or place them in an area that receives plenty of sunlight.

Overfeeding and Underfeeding
A common mistake is to overfeed or underfeed your cannabis plants. It is essential to ensure that your plants receive the right nutrients at all times. Overfeeding your plants can lead to nutrient burning. Conversely, underfeeding them can cause stunted growth and lower yields. You should research and choose a feeding schedule that’s appropriate for your plants’ stage of growth.

You can’t control the temperature or humidity
Both temperature and humidity can have a significant impact on the growth of cannabis plants. Too low or high temperatures can damage the plants and cause them to grow slower. While high humidity can cause mold and mildew, it can be very beneficial for their health. For healthy growth, and to prevent potential problems, it’s important to maintain the optimal temperature and humidity level in your grow room.

Neglecting Pest Control
The pests spider mites (thrips), aphids, and others can quickly infest cannabis plants. This can cause severe damage to the leaves and buds. Neglecting to manage pests can cause a decrease in yield, or even the complete destruction of your crop. You should inspect your plants regularly for pest signs and take the necessary steps to control or prevent them.

While growing cannabis can be rewarding, it’s important to avoid common errors that can cause lower yields or even failure. A successful harvest can be achieved by using proper watering, the correct soil, providing sufficient light, feeding the plants appropriately, controlling temperature and humidity, as well as regularly monitoring and controlling pests.
